Verizon Business To Offer New Managed Services

IP PBX IP telephony

Verizon Business, the solution provider arm of Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier Verizon Communications, has found that providing managed services can help its customers overcome the challenges associated with moving voice applications onto data networks, especially because problems on the local or wide area network can be mistaken as issues with the IP PBX.

The new offering will be available next month. Managed IP PBX offers large-business and government customers an option for moving to an advanced, integrated IP-based communications system by adding a new server and updated software.

The offerings leverage Nortel Communication Server 1000 IP-PBX, Business Communications Manager and CallPilot platforms. They enable advanced voice applications (for example, "find me, follow me,") and integrated communications (helpful for multimedia collaboration). Managed IP PBX is geared toward helping companies move to a unified communications platform as well as simplifying features including voicemail, e-mail and instant messaging.

Verizon Business will take on the implementation, as well as management of fault, configuration, accounting, performance and security functions. By managing those functions for customers, Verizon is simplifying the complexity associated with a converged IP telephony environment, allowing them to modernize their voice and data communications infrastructure, the service provider said.
