Motorola Adds Touch-Screen To Mobile TV Device
The Mobile TV DH02 is an all-in-one personal entertainment and navigation device, that Motorola billed as a "personalized TV, multimedia entertainment on the go and navigation device featuring a touch screen user interface."
The Mobile TV DH02 builds off of the DH01 model that was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show and the DH01n that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year. The new device, which will be demonstrated next week at the CTIA wireless show in Las Vegas, features a touch screen interface with click, drag and scroll icon-based menus. It also includes HSDPA/GPRS data support, enabling mobile network operators to offer interactive services to their customers.
"Today's consumers want to view TV at their convenience on devices that satisfy the entertainment experience with an easy to use interface," said Motorola Mobile TV and applications services vice president Navin Mehta.
The DH02 features live DVB-H TV with personal video recorder (PVR) capabilities like time shift, live pause and frame grabbing. DVB-H, digital video broadcast handheld, delivers broadcast content to handsets.
The device also features advanced navigation with GPS, Tele Atlas map views, points of interest, voice-activated directions, hands-free calls to points of interest, traffic information and speed alerts. Additionally, personal content like video, music and pictures can be stored on microSD cards and viewed on the devices high resolution display. A five-minute memory buffer enables live pause and time shift for TV channels.
While the screen-size for DH02 wasn't released, Motorola said it features a WQVGA display and digital video playback of 25 frames per second. The device also supports Bluetooth connections for other wireless devices.
