Nokia Issues Recall For Phone Chargers

Nokia Corp. is recalling some phone chargers that can pose an electric shock hazard for some of its models.

The Espoo, Finland-based company is offering an exchange for charger types AC-3E, AC-3U or AC-4U, according to Nokia's Web site. The AC-3E and AC-3U models were manufactured between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and the AC-$U model was made between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009.

"During a routine quality control process, Nokia identified a potential product quality issue with certain chargers manufactured by one of its third-party suppliers," Nokia wrote on its Web site. "The plastic covers of the affected chargers may come loose and separate, exposing the charger's internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket."

The company said it is unaware of any incidents or injuries related to the faulty chargers. Users with a charger that qualifies for a replacement can go to the Nokia web site to enter information and request a new charger.

Nokia will have to replace 14 million chargers manufactured by China's BYD Co Ltd,, according to Reuters. Two years ago, Nokia recalled millions of cell phone batteries manufactured by Matsushita because they risked overheating.
