Among the spec highlights, the Charm has a 2.8-inch display and includes what Motorola says is a new version of Motorola's Motoblur social networking interface, allowing users to filter their messages and better customize their widgets for Twitter, Facebook and other feeds.

It also includes a 3-megapixel camera that includes Kodak Perfect Touch software, video capture capability, a 2-GB microSD card with the ability to support an additional 32 GB, and 802.11nn b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooh, GPS, USB 2.0 and Motorola's voice quality enhancer, Crystal Talk Plus.

OS-wise, it'll ship with Android 2.1 and Flash Lite. Motorola didn't confirm when or if the Charm will get Android 2.2, also known as Froyo, which is heading to other Android devices later this year.

Motorola didn't disclose pricing or the exact release date of the Charm, but it'll join the handset maker's growing crop of feature-loaded Android devices. Previously announced Motorola smartphones like Droid X, not to mention a glut of other Android phones, are among CRN.com's list of The 10 Coolest Smartphones of 2010, So Far.

"Motorola strives to provide an increased customizable user experience, which is enabled by our latest enhancements to Motoblur and featured on the new Motorola Charm," said Jean Pierre Le Cannellier, vice president, Americas Marketing, Motorola Mobile Devices, in a statement. "Combine that with a compact design, easy handling and all the features you would expect form a smartphone, and we believe that Charm with Motoblur adds the social ability and workability consumers are looking for."
