ShoreTel has already launched its first M5-related product following the acquisition's completion.
The M5 Communicator, released this week, is part of M5's overall Unified Communications suite, and is an application accessible from a user's PC or Mac desktop. A free download for M5 UC customers, Communicator provides instant messaging across an enterprise, peer-to-peer video chat, file transfer, screen sharing capabilities and presence features.
"We believe that voice is the top of the UC pyramid," Hoffman said. "But it's clear that there are really advantages to unifying the other modes of communication, and our customers are often in cases where they're working remotely and can use these types of features."
The features provided in Communicator make it a strong alternative to similar UC systems offering unified messaging, contact center, business intelligence and VoIP features, Hoffman said.
"It's a feature set that's pound-for-pound what people are doing with expensive tools like Microsoft Lync," he said. "I think it adds a lot of value to the M5 suite."
