Nancy Shemwell, a 20-year industry veteran and well-known former Nortel executive, has joined Extreme Networks as executive vice president of global sales, the latest move in Extreme's ongoing makeover of its management team.

Shemwell will lead sales and channel management for Extreme across the world. Previously she was president and CEO of Multi-Link as well as executive vice president of Symmetricom, and she also spent 16 years at Nortel, where among other roles she was president of Nortel's data networking subsidiary Micom Communications, vice president of business segments, and vice president of sales and marketing at Nortel distributor Wiltel.

"Nancy brings to Extreme Networks the leadership skills, relationships, and proven sales experience that can help us drive towards our revenue and operating income goals," Oscar Rodriguez, Extreme's president and CEO, said in a statement.

Shemwell is the latest in a series of major hires made at Extreme since Rodriguez took over as chief executive in August 2010. Other new faces since that time have included Frank Blohm, senior vice president of services, operations, quality and IT; Carlos Perea, vice president of sales, Latin America; John Kurtzweil, chief financial officer; Theresa Caragol, vice president, global channels; Gavin Cato, vice president, engineering; and David Ginsburg, senior vice president, strategic marketing. Extreme is expected to confirm global channel updates during its partner conference next week.

Shemwell's predecessor was Michael Seaton, who left Extreme in May and is now president of Herndon, Va.-based solution provider Blue Door Networks.
