As head of Cisco's Enterprise Networking Sales Architecture team, McCool helped shape Cisco's sales strategy for its enterprise routing, switching and security portfolio. Prior to taking on a position in sales, McCool was a senior leader of Cisco's engineering organization, where he played a key role in developing Cisco's Catalyst 4500, Catalyst 6500 and Nexus 7000 switches.

McCool joined Cisco through its acquisition of Granite Systems in 1996. Before that, McCool led network product development teams at SynOptics, AMD and NeXT Computer, the PC startup founded by Steve Jobs prior to his taking the helm at Apple.

In addition to Wilburn, Cisco said some of McCool's responsibilities, particularly in regards to security, will be taken over by Vice President of Architecture Sales Scott Lovett.
