Belkin Bets On IoT With WeMo

/**/ /**/

Belkin has thrown its hat in the IoT ring with WeMo, its home-automation and connected-devices line introduced by the company in 2014.

Belkin Channel Chief Wayne Newton described WeMo as the home and "soon-to-be smart office solution involving devices that connect to a network over Wi-Fi, and then using a remote app that's both iOS- and Android-based, it allows the users to control devices that are connected to those fixtures."

In addition, the WeMo Insight Switch sends notifications to mobile devices about how much energy is being used by electronics. Through the switch, users can remotely turn electronics on and off. They can also control the WeMo Light Switch via their smartphones, from anywhere. The switches replace standard wall switches and can be installed by the users themselves.

The Belkin NetCam also works with WeMo products to program features like lights that automatically turn on when someone opens and walks through a door.

Belkin partners with a variety of commercial resellers including GreenPages and Technology Integration Group. Distributors include Synnex, Tech Data, Arrow and Ingram Micro.
