RSA Updates Access Product

Enhancements to ClearTrust include new user management capabilities, features that provide new transaction authorization capabilities and support for federated identity management and Web services.

"The true challenge of Web services is managing the identity as well as the access," said Brian Breton, senior product marketing manager at RSA, Bedford, Mass.

In particular, the company is touting the administration capabilities of the product as a key differentiator.

The product will ship initially on Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000, Solaris 9 and Solaris 8. Support for Red Hat Linux, HP-UX and AIX will be added over the next two quarters, Breton said.

As with previous versions, ClearTrust 5.5 will be priced on a per-user basis, although Breton decline to provide specific scenarios.

Pat Grillo, president and CEO of Atrion Communications Resources, a Branchburg, N.J.-based solution provider, said the enhancements should make an already attractive product even more compelling. "Awareness is the biggest thing we're selling, really," he said.

The manageability features included in ClearTrust 5.5 will be key to winning customers concerned that identity management technology will cost valuable network bandwidth.

"You can get a better feel for who's signing on and do it while making sure it doesn't cost [the customer] efficiency," Grillo said.
