Week in Security: Biometrics Support for Windows, Oracle Vulnerability

%95 AuthenTec said it is working with Microsoft to develop native biometrics authentication software support for Windows. The vendors will collaborate on a reference driver that will allow Windows users to authenticate to the operating system via biometrics devices.

%95 A buffer overflow vulnerability in Oracle Net Services for the Oracle Database server could allow an attacker to launch a denial-of-service attack or execute arbitrary code against the database server, Oracle said. Oracle9i, Releases 1 and 2 are affected, as are Oracle8i, Oracle8 and Oracle7 Release 7.3.x. The vendor released a patch in its Oracle Security Alert 54.

%95 Sunbelt Software released iHateSpam Server Edition, which provides enterprisewide spam filtering for Microsoft Exchange 2000 servers. Pricing is on a per-mailbox basis and starts at $395 for a 25-mailbox pack.

%95 AEP Systems launched a channel program to boost sales of its hardware security and acceleration products. As part of the launch, AEP Systems said it will distribute its new SSL VPN product, AEP SureWatch A-Gate, exclusively through channel partners.
