Sophos Acquires ActiveState

ActiveState's PureMessage enterprise e-mail protection software will be integrated with Sophos's antivirus offerings, Sophos said. The company cited the convergence of spam and worms, and particularly the use of worm-like e-mail techniques by spammers, as looming enterprise risks.

ActiveState's open-source programming tools will continue to be marketed under the ActiveState brand, Sophos said.

The deal was valued at $23 million in cash.
