Symantec Appoints New President And COO

John Thompson, chairman and CEO of the company, formerly held the position of president. The COO post is a new position for the security-software vendor, based here.

Schwarz formerly was president and CEO of Reciprocal, a now defunct software company focused on digital rights management.

Previously, he was the general manager of IBM's Industry Solutions unit, which built business applications and related services. Schwarz also led IBM's industry alliance programs.

Schwarz will be responsible for all product development, incident response, sales, support, professional services and partner relationships.
