Reconnex Goes To Channel With Data Leak Prevention

The three-year-old company on Wednesday unveiled the Reconnex iGuard 2600S, a turnkey version of its iGuard 2600 technology, said Faizel Lakhani, vice president of marketing for the Mountain View, Calif.-based vendor.

Reconnex's data leak prevention technology monitors a company's network traffic in search of specific types of data to ensure that sensitive information is captured and quarantined before it's copied off the network, Lakhani said.

The iGuard 2600S, a 2U appliance with 400 Gbytes of storage capacity, is installed at network egress points (see CRN Test Center review). Lakhani said the product is aimed at helping midsize companies in financial, health-care and other vertical markets protect private data to meet security requirements related to Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and other regulations.

"It scans the data, looks at information in motion as it is trying to leave the network and captures the information to allow it to be searched to see how the data escaped," Lakhani said.

Previously, Reconnex sold its iGuard technology on a direct basis. But Lakhani said the company is making the appliance version of the technology available only through solution providers with security experience.

"We are going to the channel because it's a new product and because we realize the market now has a certain level of maturation," he said.

Reconnex is the latest vendor of data leak prevention technology to target the channel. This past summer, Palo Alto, Calif.-based PortAuthority Technologies stepped up its channel business efforts to drive its data leak prevention appliance.
