BorderWare Joins Unified Threat Management Appliance Parade

The new BorderWare Security Platform marks the first time the vendor has offered application layer, mail and web traffic protection in a single appliance. Previously, BorderWare provided mail appliance functionality with its MXTreme product priced at about $4,000.

The new BorderWare product competes against unified threat management appliances from the likes of Aladdin and IronPort.

"If BorderWare handles the throughput I need for my clients I think it will be absolutely awesome," said Roy Miehe, president and CEO of AA AntiVirus, a Campbell, Calif., security solution provider who beta tested the appliance. "The pricing is absolutely phenomenal. It's better than sliced cheese." The only product close is Aladdin eSafe product starting at about $4,500 to $6,000, said Miehe. He said he is anxious to test the http load on the BorderWare appliance in production environments.

Miehe said he expects his BorderWare business to as much as triple this year to $1.5 million. He commended BorderWare for listening closely to its solution provider partners to deliver better products and pricing to small and midsized business customers.

The new appliance marks the first time BorderWare has provided application layer security in an appliance and supported non-SIP instant messaging products like MSN and AOL.
