AppRiver Rolls Out Secure Mobile Email App For Apple, Android Devices

AppRiver, a Florida-based messaging and security company, has launched a new application aimed at driving secure email messaging into both of the most widely used mobile platforms. The company's CipherPost Pro application extends AppRiver's cloud-based encryption service to any iPhone, iPad or Android device.

"The product is an encrypted email service," said David Liberatore, senior director of technical product development at AppRiver. "A lot of our customers have been asking for the capability to have a native app on the device, so we developed a product that allows secure data on their mobile device, be it Android or Apple. There's no data being stored there. It's making calls back to the Web server that has the information. After they log into the application, they can view their messages, they can compose new messages and do all of the message tracking that they normally do."

The app requires no enterprise installation but ensures global administrative control and enforcement of compliance policies at the server level.

"There is security in keeping the data off of the device," he added. "If the device goes missing, there's nothing to wipe. Also, when they go into this application, the message is decrypted. They can see it. They can compose a new encrypted message and send it off. Also, when they get back to their desktop and log into Outlook, they've got the same messages there.”

Users and channel partners can add their own branding, logos and white labeling to the interface.

"By allowing the end customer or the partner to have their branding in place, it drives adoption and usage of the product," said AppRiver Senior Vice President Tom Buoniello. "They can see the source and the branding and the colors that demonstrate that this message is coming from a trusted source. The challenge with encrypted mail has been getting the end users to actually use it, but we're seeing a much higher adoption rate because of that branding."

Buoniello added that the CipherPost Pro application also helps to maintain required compliance on company-issued or personal smartphones and tablets by reducing the risk of data leakage.

The offering is available immediately with platform-independent street pricing of $7.95 per user, per month.
