CRN Exclusive: Cloud Security Vendor Qualys Strikes Platform Deal With HPE

Cloud security vendor Qualys is integrating two of its major offerings within Hewlett Packard Enterprise's managed security services portfolio, the vendor announced Wednesday. The integration will help improve businesses to have better overall visibility of their security and compliance across data centers, as well as public and private clouds.

The announcement involves the Qualys Cloud Platform and the Qualys Vulnerability Management network security solution. The combination will allow HPE to give customers "two-second" visibility of their security and compliance posture for all IT assets whether they're on-premises, mobile endpoints or "elastic cloud environments," Qualys said in a statement.

"This is essentially another [option for] managed service providers [to] leverage our Qualys platform to deliver vulnerability management services and security and compliance services," Qualys Chairman and CEO Philippe Courtot told CRN.

HPE will leverage the Qualys solutions to extend their visibility into big data, security analytics and SIEM (security information and event management) platforms such as HPE Security ArcSight, according to the Qualys statement. The Redwood City, Calif., company says its platform helps companies to get a holistic, real-time view of their IT assets, vulnerabilities and key policy configurations.

’With the increasing sophistication of attackers, organizations need scalable, real-time visibility of their entire IT security and compliance environment,’ Art Wong, senior vice president and general manager, HPE Security Services, said in the Qualys statement. The deal with Qualys will provide HPE customers with a "multitenant architecture that delivers greater security visibility to help detect and respond to threats.’

HPE is also a Qualys customer, Courtot said, adding this his company has had a "long-term relationship with them."

Courtot also said that one reason HPE turned to Qualys was to replace McAfee Vulnerability Manager, which was discontinued by Intel Security earlier this year.

The deal with HPE is the second big announcement in the security space involving Qualys within the last three weeks. Last month, NTT announced it would team up with Qualys to standardize its managed security services offerings by integrating the Qualys Cloud Platform.

Qualys will serve as the ’base platform’ for all of NTT Security’s managed security services operations as NTT brings together five security brands, the company said. That includes the MSS platform of solution provider giant Dimension Data, which NTT bought in 2010.

Qualys has more than 50 channel partners around the world. It has nearly 9,000 customers in more than 100 countries, including most of the Fortune 100 and Forbes Global 100.
