Maxxan Adds Brains To Midrange SAN Switch

The MXV250 combines 16- to 64-port Fibre Channel switching with Falconstor's IPStor software suite and the Maxxan SANCruiser management. Its modular design allows customers to implement only the storage applications they need, while maintaining a single point of management control.

Cost and complexity have been deterrents to adopting intelligent data services in the fabric, according to Nancy Hurley, senior analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. The MXV250 addresses this by providing a cost-effective, midrange SAN storage solution with integrated applications, she added, in a statement.

The IPStor software enables remote replication, virtualization, synchronous and asynchronous mirroring, snapshot, point-in-time copy and network attached storage (NAS) as selectable options.

The MXV250 will be generally available in June; an MXV250 with 32 ports and virtualization functionality lists for $59,000.
