CA Readies Version 10 Of BrightStor

The new version includes an Advanced Application Disaster Recovery function, which automates the recovery of applications and data for Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server and can store a single copy of an attachment sent to multiple users via Exchange regardless of how many e-mails contain that attachment, company executives said.

ARCserve 10 is expected to be available for Windows this quarter. Linux and NetWare versions are expected early next year.

Robert Davis, divisional vice president for BrightStor, said CA is releasing Version 10 less than nine months after Version 9 to help customers realize the value of their maintenance contracts.

But Todd Huntley, president of SanServe, a solution provider in Roseville, Minn., said he can't figure out why CA would want to come out with a new version so quickly. "ARCserve 9 is the best product they ever had," he said.
