Latest Storage Resource Management Acquisition: AppIQ Buys XStormTech

Executives at AppIQ, a Burlington, Mass.-based developer of enterprise software solutions aimed at turning the management of storage into an application-focused utility, said Wednesday that the company will acquire XStormTech, a Helmetta, N.J.-based SRM solution developer.

Financial details of the deal between the two privately held companies were not released.

Along with the company, AppIQ will also acquire XStormTech's intellectual property and software development operations.

XStormTech's SRM technology can cut the time needed to discover, scan and report on files, and can collect demographic information to alert the storage administrator when disks or logical volumes are running out of capacity, according to AppIQ executives.

XStormTech founder Vijay Sarashetti is joining AppIQ to lead the integration of XStormTech's SRM technology into the AppIQ management suite. The integrated solution will be available later this year, company executives said.

XStormTech is only the latest SRM vendor to be acquired in the past few years. Other recent SRM acquisitions include Astrum by EMC in April, Trellisoft by IBM in August 2002 and HighGround by Sun Microsystems in December 2000.
