HP Serves Up New Storage Services

Among the five new consulting services that HP's adding to its portfolio are those that review a business's disaster recovery strategy, implement a data replication solution, assess an enterprise's storage optimization plan, sanitize data so that it cannot be recovered or rebuilt from de-commissioned storage devices, and analyze the overall storage area management practices a company's put into place.

At the same time, HP enhanced its pay-per-use storage plan, which relies on the hardware maker's servers. Under the plan, customers pay a fixed monthly fee, plus a variable fee calculated on the metered use of the servers. Part of HP's ongoing On Demand, utility-style strategy, the plan now sports a tweaked pricing model and improved metering methodology, said HP.

Costs for the consulting services vary, depending on the service and the size of the customer, said HP. Most will be available before the end of the third quarter, 2003.

The pay-per-use storage concept is available immediately in North America, and will later expand to other markets, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
