Storage distributor TidalWire is moving into the midrange storage networking market, while EMC is bringing more of its Clariion product to the channel in an agreement between the two companies unveiled Monday.
TidalWire executives said the distributor, based here, will offer Fibre Channel host bus adaptors for EMC's Clariion line of arrays, making this the first time the distributor has started working with that midrange storage line. The company previously sold host bus adaptors for EMC's high-end Symmetrix line of arrays. TidalWire will also start distributing Brocade's 3200 entry-level Fibre Channel switch.
EMC had been handling sales of its Clariion host bus adapters directly, but the agreement with TidalWire will open the distributor up to new market opportunities, especially in the small and midsize enterprise marketplace, said Jeff Brandes, TidalWire president and CEO.
TidalWire focuses on storage networking-related products, including host bus adaptors, from such vendors as Emulex, JNI and QLogic, as well as other similar products such as SAN installation kits. However, the company does not distribute storage arrays, Brandes said. "This allows us to support solution providers who work with products from a variety of vendors," he said.
The new product lines are part of a push by TidalWire to serve a wider range of solution providers, Brandes said. The company currently serves clients across North America, ranging from large-scale systems integrators to small solution providers that act as procurement engineers for larger companies, he said. "But it's no surprise that the bulk of our revenue comes from high-end solution providers," he said.
