Adaptec Acquires ICP vortex From Intel

ICP vortex, a Neckarsulm, Germany-based developer of RAID protection for SCSI, SATA, and Fibre Channel arrays, was a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Intel, which acquired it in March of 2001.

ICP vortex was the predominant RAID supplier in Europe and offers the company good technology, said an Adaptec spokesperson.

Adaptec acquired ICP vortex both for its technology and its European distribution and sales, said the spokesperson. The ICP vortex line will be continued for the foreseeable future.

ICP vortex has adapter cards ready for market that are ahead of Adaptec's in terms of technology and could soon become a part of Adaptec's product line, the spokesperson said.
