Symantec To Buy PowerQuest

Orem, Utah-based PowerQuest makes products such as VolumeManager, PartitionMagic Professional and ServerMagic to help large companies add new and reconfigure existing storage devices, and then monitor and manage them.

A Symantec spokesman said PowerQuest's active state management tools, which track cradle-to-grave storage management from low-end servers and desktops to laptops and handheld devices, will complement Symantec's own lineup. Symantec's Ghost 2003 lets users easily create backups of hard drives to ease file restoration.

Symantec, Cupertino, Calif., said it hopes to combine the two companies' deployment, imaging, provisioning, storage management and disaster recovery tools into a new enterprise suite that covers the gamut of devices from servers to handhelds.
