  • HP Talks Up Channel At Storage User Conference
    At least a part of Hewlett-Packard's mind was on the channel as the vendor presented its storage strategy to a crowded room full of users at its HP Americas StorageWorks conference, held this week in Las Vegas. The conference started on Wednesday evening, a few hours after the HP Americas Partner Conference ended. Both Ann Livermore, executive vice president of HP's Technology Group, and Bob Schultz, senior vice president and general manager of HP's StorageWorks Division, told audiences they can count on solution providers for help with their HP storage infrastructures.

    EMC is expanding its business process management business with the acquisition of ProActivity Software Solutions, a developer of content management software for business process management software. EMC officials said the acquisition addresses a technology missing from EMC's BPM offering, which it received as part of its Documentum acquisition in 2003.

    Seneca Data Acquires CSI
    Seneca Data, the fourth-largest company on CRN's top 50 system builder list, has acquired Concentric Systems Inc. (CSI), the 11th-biggest player, in a deal that would create the nation's No. 2 custom-systems maker.

    Money Mailer, a direct-mail advertising company based in Garden Grove, Calif., was running out of space, and so it turned to solution provider Secure Data Group to expand its storage environment. Two SANs and half of a million dollar investment into its storage network later, and the company reports that the technology has changed the way it does business.
  • Dell Inks Removable Storage Deal With Tandberg
    Dell has signed an OEM agreement with Tandberg Data for low-cost removable storage drives and media, possibly making it the second major vendor to sign an OEM deal for removable hard drives aimed at replacing tape drives and cartridges.
  • Solution Provider Nexus Launches Storage Division
    Strong growth of its storage business has moved a solution provider to set up a new storage division to prepare for the next phase of growth. Plymouth, Minn.-based Nexus Information Systems, which has seen its storage practice grow from $0 to $6 million in five years, plans to develop dedicated sales and support resources for its storage practice in order to become more specialized as customers' storage needs grow.

    Network Appliance on Monday unveiled a high-performance computing enhancement to its Data ONTAP storage operating system, finally taking advantage of storage grid technology from an acquisition it made over two years ago. The storage vendor's new Data ONTAP GX operating system increases the scalability and performance of its network storage appliances by clustering multiple appliances together and striping individual files or data sets across multiple nodes.
  • HDS Unveils Centralized Digital Archiving Solution
    Hitachi Data Systems this week is joining the ranks of storage vendors offering a digital archiving solution with its new Hitachi Content Archive Platform, which allows content created by most types of applications to be archived into a common archiving repository and retrieved via a single archiving tool. The solution puts content from multiple sources into a centralized repository which enables a single tool to search all the content regardless of how created.
