Avnet Hall-Mark has augmented its EMC product line with the signing of a deal to offer the full range of EMC Legato storage and information management software to its solution provider customers.
The Tempe, Ariz.-based value-added distributor now carries EMC Legato NetWorker backup and archiving software, EMC RepliStor, EMC AAM (Automated Availability Manager) and EMC EmailXtender.
Avnet Hall-Mark signed EMC as a vendor a couple years ago and has watched the vendor evolve over time as it developed its information life-cycle management strategy, said Jeff Bawol, general manager and senior vice president of enterprise software and storage at the distributor. "We're trying to achieve the same thing and get resellers involved in ILM," he said.
Bawol said the Legato line does compete in certain areas with several of the distributor's vendors, especially with software from Veritas Software. "But we approach EMC from a holistic perspective," he said. "We are using Legato with the EMC line."
Ray Fischer, general manager and senior vice president of enterprise services at Avnet Hall-Mark, said the distributor has represented competitive software for years, including HP's Data Protector for 20 years and Tivoli for 15 years. "The reality of competitive offerings in backup software are not the same as for hardware," he said. "They are not interchangeable There is absolutely room for opportunities for all. People need their data protected."
Avnet Hall-Mark has the Legato line ready for ordering and shipment, and has full tech support available, Fischer said.
