Intradyn Releases SMB Data Backup/Recovery Services

The solution combines off-site back-up services with Intradyn's RocketVault backup and archiving appliance. According to the company, the service provides both greater data security and faster, simplified backup and restore than traditional e-vaulting solutions.

The RocketVault appliance provides both onsite and offsite backup. The device encrypts user data using AES 256-bit encryption and stores it locally, while also sending it to the service provider's remote site for disaster recovery purposes. With up to 4 TB of storage for redundant on-site backup, the RocketVault appliance can be used for extremely fast local recovery when off-site recovery is not required. According to Intradyn CEO Gary Doan, local restores over a 100 GB local area net connection can be up to 400 times faster than restores from a remote location.

Moreover, Doan says the RocketVault appliance and service offers customers unparalleled security by encrypting backed-up data both locally and remotely. "We encrypt the complete backup " not just the data as it's being transmitted, as other online services do, which they then unencrypt at the destination," he said in a statement. "In that approach, the customer's data is not fully protected on the remote storage server. With the RocketVault solution, the encrypted files are 100% secure, on both the local and remote storage. This kind of security just hasn't been available for small or midsized businesses till now -- and we make it affordable, too."

Prices for the RocketVault appliance start at $1495. Offsite backup services are offered through Intradyn's service provider network, with pricing and options set by the individual providers.
