Microsoft and Sony can make all the noise they want at the E3 Media and Business gaming extravaganza in Los Angeles, but I know the Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation and they are no Wii.

The fact is Wii redefined the home entertainment experience with its athletic gaming breakthrough. Now Microsoft and Sony are at E3 with their half hearted attempt to convince gamers they have something new and exciting. Not. They may have some nice little twists but they don't have anything like the Wii.

The Wii is going to be the must have product at Christmas. Retail buyers placing their big bets for the holiday season would be wise to make sure they get their Wii orders in early and often.

Nintendo, by the way, stole the thunder of both Microsoft and Sony with a preshow announcement of a new accessory -- the Wii MotionPlus which is aimed at providing an improved one-to-one matching of motion gaming experience.

Microsoft, for its part, pulled out all its hyperbole cards with what it called a "new Xbox experience that will reinvent home entertainment from the inside out, changing the way we play games, watch movies and TV shows, and even become contestants in game shows." Part of that includes a partnership with Netflix to give Xbox 360 users instant access to more than 10,000 feature films and TV shows. An Xbox that can play movies. Wow.
