Open Tech, another potential Mac clone maker, has closed shop after just one month of business.

On the front page of Open Tech's Website, viewers are greeted with an ad explaining that Open Tech is for sale for $50,000.

Clicking through the Website, users can see the two models previously offered for sale, the Open Tech Home and the Open Tech XT. Open Tech claims its machines are "meant to be open, you can choose which OS you want to run," according to the Website. Users must apparently install their own operating systems.

But has anyone actually purchased one of these machines? The Open Tech forum has posts from people saying they might buy, but none from either happy or disgruntled purchasers. On the Open Tech forum, one poster asks in a post dated six days ago: "When will your store be back up? When do you anticipate that systems will begin shipping?" The response, also dated six days ago: "Very Soon."

Apparently "Very Soon" actually means "never," since Open Tech currently has provided a convenient PayPal button on its Web site and further information about the purchase for potential buyers:

"The Company Open Tech is up for sale. We are selling the Open Tech name, the website, the trade secrets(including The Open Tech Home & XT Blueprints and future model blueprints), press contacts, and 1 Open Tech Home Model and 1 Open Tech XT model with the OS of your choice all in one package. If you decide to purchase Open Tech all this information will be emailed to you and the computers will be sent to you after the purchase.

If you are interested in purchasing Open Tech and need more information contact us at sales@good2beopen.com

To Purchase the Open Tech Company Now for $50,000, containing all of the above. Click the Button Below. The payment process is Verified by PayPal, as soon as the payment is received the Open Tech Paperwork,Documents, and 2 Open Tech Computers will be mailed to you."

E-mails sent to the PR contact info on the Open Tech Web site were not answered.

In the case of Open Tech, discretion may be the better part of valor, seeing as Psystar, another Mac clone builder, is currently being sued by Apple for copyright infringement. Although Psystar had the wisdom to hire a law firm that has previously defeated Apple in a court of law.
