The device, based on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, runs on AT&T's high-speed 3G network both domestically and internationally and offers built-in aGPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. Because it runs Windows Mobile, the Incite also offers access to Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5. It also is the first LG device to include Windows Media Player 10.
LG said the Incite separates itself from competing smart phones with its sleek and sophisticated design, which features a 3-inch touch screen and a 3.0-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities.
Additionally, the Incite wraps in two different on-screen virtual keyboards -- one, a full QWERTY keyboard in landscape mode, the other a 20-key keyboard in portrait view -- both of which offer haptic keys for vibration feedback.
AT&T said the Incite also features various screen navigation modes, which lets people use their fingers to move through the interface, a scroll button on the upper right of the screen or a stylus, which is included. A configurable drag-and-drop favorites menu offers quick access to applications from the home screen.
The Incite is LG's answer to the touch-screen titans that have created a recent stir in the smart phone world, starting with the Apple iPhone 3G and the Google Android-based T-Mobile G1 and now the up-and-coming BlackBerry Storm, Research In Motion (RIM) Ltd.'s first-ever touch-screen device, which is set to hit stores on Friday, Nov. 21.
The Incite comes in at a similar price point as its main rivals, with AT&T noting that the device will cost about $200 with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate. That's the same price as the 8-GB model of the iPhone 3G and the price Verizon Wireless is offering for the BlackBerry Storm. The T-Mobile G1 runs about $20 less than the pack.
The LG Incite also crams in a host of multimedia features, including AT&T Navigator, which is powered by TeleNav for turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions and 3-D moving maps that can be used in cars or while walking. Navigator also features traffic alerts, re-routing and other location-based services. The Incite offers access to business and personal e-mail accounts through Microsoft Direct Push and AT&T's Xpress Mail Service and also fifers instant messaging and AT&T Mobile Music service.
For memory, the Incite includes a microSD memory port with up to 16 GB of support. It supports Bluetooth 2.0 and AT&T Video Share, which lets users share live video over wireless devices while in a voice call.
On the enterprise side, the LG Incite supports Microsoft's System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, which lets companies manage and protect Windows Mobile 6.1 smart phones. Using the Device Manager, companies can provide mobile workers with software updates and applications over the air while also offering access to secured corporate data.
