Supporting legacy media is not problem for the GSA-4082B. Testing shows it supports even two types of DVD-RAM in addition to the more common CD, DVD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD R and DVD RW. That preserves any investment in older media, and eliminates barriers to including the unit in future systems.
The data rates for reading and writing all the types of media are very good. In fact, the unit passed a torture test that forced it to playback a 2 Gigabyte video file--half the contents of a typical DVD title--in just ten minutes without drop outs.
The unit installs as easily as any DVD drive. Software includes the CyberLink PowerDVD player, a DVD-RAM driver, DVD editing software and other value adds.
