After several years of selling slate-style Tablet PCs, ViewSonic recently unveiled its first convertible Tablet PC, the V1250. The V1250 is a well-built unit, and includes a 12.1-inch screen, Intel Pentium M 1GHz processor, 256 MByte of memory (expandable to 768 MByte) and a 30 GByte hard drive with shock protection. Connectivity is provided by a 802.11b wireless radio, 56 Kbps V.90 modem, two USB 2.0 ports and a full-size Firewire port. The Tablet PC weighs 3.9 pounds, which is a bit heavy for a mobile device. A drive for Secure Digital media is included and a ledge protruding from the V1250's base includes a useful scroll wheel. Buttons on the ledge and on the side of the tablet's screen can be programmed to control various functions, and are preset to control screen rotation, turn on and off the wireless radio, reload web pages, etc.
