Norton Internet Security 2005 Provides Complete Protection

Norton AntiVirus 2005 removes viruses, spyware and Trojan horses automatically and blocks worms before they can enter a computer. Norton AntiVirus checks incoming and outgoing e-mail messages for viruses and can block viruses attached to instant messages (IMs). The software also scans compressed files before they are opened, though this feature works only with Windows XP. The software automatically downloads new virus protection updates to protect computers against newly discovered threats. Norton AntiVirus is also available as a stand-alone software product.

The Norton Personal Firewall cloaks PCs on the Internet. If hackers can't locate a PC, they can't attack it. Norton Personal Firewall also features intrusion-prevention technology that automatically blocks suspicious traffic based on a predefined profile of normal network activity. When installed on a notebook computer, Norton's Network Detector automatically adjusts security settings when the computer is moved from one network to another. The firewall can be temporarily disabled if it causes any interoperability problems and will automatically re-enable itself after a period of time.

A new feature called Norton Privacy Control lets users send confidential information and personal data to trusted sites and will alert users when personal data is being sent to untrusted sites. Privacy Control can detect confidential information being sent in e-mail, instant messages, Microsoft Office attachments and Web forms. This keeps users safe from online phishing scams that gather personal information to be used in identity theft. A new Outbreak Alert feature notifies users when high-level threats occur and recommends procedures for tightening security if necessary. A Web content filtering function can keep users away from inappropriate Web sites.

Norton AntiSpam 2005 identifies spam as it arrives in a user's inbox. It can analyze e-mail in most POP3 connections and integrates with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora and Yahoo Web e-mail. It can also filter spam from Hotmail and MSN Mail if retrieved through Microsoft Outlook. Norton AntiSpam 2005 identifies fraudulent URLs within e-mail messages and filters messages with spoofed sender addresses. Users can choose to filter sexually explicit spam to prevent inappropriate content from ever reaching their inbox. A new language-based filter can block e-mail messages in specific languages. Norton AntiSpam 2005 can also block pop-ups, if desired.

Norton Internet Security 2005 is a good option for white-box builders to bundle with systems, and it's a good revenue generator for return service visits to a customer's site. Norton is a well-known, trusted name that even the smallest business can rely on.

Symantec restructured its global channel program in May 2004 to better map partner categories to customer market segments and more closely align the program with partners' customer focus. The newly revamped partner categories--Enterprise Security Partner, Enterprise Administration Partner, Enterprise Solutions Partner, Enterprise Sales Partner, Premier Software Partner and Software Partner--are now based on a reseller's business model and customer base. Profit margins average 7 percent to 14 percent. Symantec's online partner portal, PartnerPromos, provides access to ongoing promotions, incentives, rebates and preapproved collateral materials. A section of the online portal called PartnerMarketing develops co-branded direct mail and e-mail campaigns targeted at specific customer bases. Symantec offers free Web-based sales training to all partners, and traditional instructor-led training is also available.
