Soyo Dragon2 Could Be Lucky For VARs

Soyo's KT880 Dragon2 motherboard is an option integrators should consider for system construction. The mainboard is loaded with features such as Serial ATA, Parallel ATA, RAID and Gigabit Ethernet. These features are integrated with the motherboard and provide a strong base from which system builders can develop a high-performing system for any environment. The board also incorporates strong multimedia capabilities, adequate for both business and multimedia environments. The board includes an eight-channel audio controller for front, center/sub, surround and rear speakers, line-in/out and SPDIF in/out. With such a strong audio component, solu- tion providers or system builders could consider improvements elsewhere, such as a higher-performance graphics card or RAM upgrade. The Dragon2 supports up to 4 Gbytes of DDR400 RAM and has two dual DIMM sockets.

The board includes Via Technologies' KT880 chipset, which is desirable for desktop use because of its speed and productivity. The chipset now supports dual channels for up to 8 Gbytes of RAM, compared with Via's 4-Gbyte, single-channel KT600 model. The Socket A mainboard is well laid out, except that the AGP slot is directly above the PCI slot with no space between them. Larger video cards such as Nvidia's GeForce 6800 will likely block access to the PCI slot. The mainboard does not include parallel ports or serial ports.

The mainboard's back panel offers six audio connections, four USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit LAN connection and two PS2 inputs for a keyboard and mouse. User-friendly features include customizable fan output control and extensive documentation.
