IBM's Internet Security Systems division is warning customers not to apply an update the vendor issued Wednesday for its Proventia G-Series line of intrusion prevention appliances.

After releasing the update Wednesday morning, Atlanta-based ISS issued a subsequent advisory warning users that their networks would be "significantly impacted" if they apply the Proventia G update for the XPU 1.92 library, named "prov_pam_1.92_200612130026.pkg."

ISS has removed the faulty update from its download center but said it is still available as an automatic download through SiteProtector, a centralized system for managing ISS products. For customers that have already downloaded the Proventia G update, ISS provided instructions for rolling back to the previous XPU version.

ISS said it is in the process of investigating the issue and will let customers know when it has been fixed.
