From the June 15, 2007 issue of CRN Tech
It seems there are more ways than ever before that a company's confidential data can slip outside the confines of its network and walls. Realizing this, businesses are turning to VARs to help plug up any leaks and fortify their information security.

Here's a snapshot of some leading content security and data leak prevention (DLP) vendors and their products, along with some channel information.

COMPANY: Websense
San Diego, Calif.
www.websense.com

(800) 723-1166

PRODUCT LINE:
Websense entered the data leak prevention market via its acquisition of PortAuthority, and has integrated the technology into its Content Protection Suite. Through a partnership with DLP startup Safend, Websense protects organizations from data leaks from end-point devices.

PARTNER POINTS:
Websense greatly improved its channel credentials after bringing in former McAfee channel chief Dave Roberts and unveiling a new program in August. PortAuthority was building a program when acquired.

COMPANY: Clearswift
Redwood City, Calif.
www.clearswift.com

(800) 982-6109

PRODUCT LINE:
Clearswift, which has long focused on e-mail content security, expanded its technology to include general Web security. The company offers the MimeSweeper Email Appliance and MimeSweeper Web Appliance, which include data extrusion prevention capabilities.

PARTNER POINTS:
The company's single-tier business partner program offers simplicity and brings training and MDF to partners. Discounts on demo units and free training complement high margins and dedicated support.

COMPANY: Finjan
San Jose, Calif.
www.finjan.com
(888) 346-5268

PRODUCT LINE:
Finjan offers a range of security products that can be used collectively to control data leakage. When it comes to extrusion protection, Finjan first offers its compliance-based appliances, but has other appliances that can incorporate its data extrusion prevention technologies.

PARTNER POINTS:
VARs selling network security are the company's primary target. Finjan offers an account manager and partner portal. VARs will be pleased with the company's opportunity protection and joint demo services.

COMPANY: McAfee
Santa Clara, Calif.
www.mcafee.com
(888) 511-8301

PRODUCT LINE:
McAfee offers Data Loss Prevention Gateway, a purpose-built appliance, to protect networks against data leakage. The product sits at the edge of the network and examines all outgoing traffic to verify that no confidential information is transmitted.

The company touts its McAfee SecurityAlliance Partner Program. It is extensive and can be complex, but offers several levels of rewards, support options and training.
