Will Smith's character becomes a primary target for the NSA when Smith obtains evidence of a politically motivated murder. The NSA, intent on ruining Smith's life, seems to be able to follow his every move with a lot of high tech surveillance equipment.
First of all, since when is the government so organized? This film also challenges our sense of belief (and makes us a little paranoid) when Will Smith goes into a negligee shop and a security camera has been rigged (presumably by the NSA) to provide a 3D reconstruction of the items contained in the bag. The agency also cancels all his credit cards and generally follows his every move from technologically sophisticated satellite cameras.
"(Hollywood) makes technology look completely effortless," said Tom Ruffolo, CEO of eSecurity togo, security consulting and production solutions VAR "That's its really implausible and thank god it's not true."
The takeaway? Security isn't that arbitrary, experts say. And high-level security, like anything else that has to churn through layers of government bureaucracy, takes a lot of time.
