CA Expands ID Management With Security Acquisition

By Joseph F. Kovar, ChannelWeb

CA on Thursday expanded its ID management portfolio with its second acquisition in as many months.

The company on Thursday said it acquired Eurekify, a developer of identity and role management software.

The move follows the acquisition in early October of IDFocus, a developer of identity management technology.

The terms of both acquisitions were not released.

Eurekify is a strong vendor of role management and role discovery technology, which is a key part of identity management, said Dave Hansen, corporate senior vice president and general manager for security management at CA.

"You want to look at all employees and categorize them into roles, such as A/P clerk or IT manager," Hansen said. "So if an A/P clerk joins or leaves a company, you know what they do, what they need, and how to handle their account access. And, for identity management, when a person gets into a system, you want to know who they are."

CA and Eurekify are no strangers to each other. CA has been reselling Eurekify's applications since May 2008, giving CA a good opportunity to see how Eurekify fits with its product line, Hansen said. "I found this technology to be a fundamental component in ID management," he said.

IDFocus' technology focuses on user provisioning and has no role-based capabilities, making it and Eurekify good fits for each other, Hansen said. "IDFocus is really good at adding features to users quickly," he said.

CA is integrating Eurekify's technology into its own offerings in three phases, Hansen said. In the first phase, it is focusing on ensuring that Eurekify's most recent offerings pass CA's testing process to put the CA brand on them.

In the second phase, it will ensure that Eurekify's products seamlessly integrate with CA's products.

Finally, Eurekify's products will eventually be available as a standalone application, as it is currently, and as a feature set within the CA Identity Manager product family, Hansen said.

Prior to the acquisition, Eurekify had an indirect sales channel which mainly consisted of systems integrators, with very little overlap with CA's channels, Hansen said.
