Symantec executives never die. They just join the boards of start ups.

At least that's the case of former Symantec President and CEO Gordon Eubanks, who, in his post Symantec career, recently joined the board of directors for Perimeter eSecurity, an on-demand security company specializing in hosted network defense, intrusion detection and e-mail solutions.

"Businesses across all industries are searching for leaner, less capital intensive and more cost-effective solutions to cover them for their IT security and compliance needs," said Eubanks, who is Chairman of Transforma Acquisition Group, in a written statement. "Perimeter's SaaS model in the security, compliance and e-mail space provides an immediate answer to all of those needs in an enterprise class solution for businesses of any size. Perimeter is a true leader in this space and I'm excited to join the Perimeter board at this point in its growth cycle."

To say it's a big feather in Perimeter's cap is far from an understatement. Eubanks stood at the helm of Symantec in 1984 until 1999, when the security company was coming into its own as an emerging desktop software and antivirus company before its post dot com era heyday.

Eubanks ultimately left Symantec to become president and CEO of Oblix, another Silicon Valley startup which created enterprise identity management and other Web security solutions. Oblix was later acquired by Oracle in 2005.

However, Eubanks never really strayed far from the security space, and has since become involved with several security software businesses, including a board position at Raytheon Oakley Systems, which delivers military grade data and infrastructure solutions in both the federal and commercial sectors. In addition, he most recently chaired the Transforma Acquisition Group, a technology, media and telecommunications acquisition company.

Needless to say, those at Perimeter seem pretty happy about their pick.

"This further validates our long held belief that the future of IT security is in the cloud," said Brad Miller, CEO of Perimeter eSecurity, in a statement. "His involvement underscores Perimeter's position as a market leader in security software as a service," a business which execs say the company pioneered over nine years ago in the financial services industry.

Welcome aboard Eubanks.
