Sophos To Cut 5 Percent Of Global Workforce

Altogether, about 75 Sophos employees will be affected by Sophos' scheduled layoffs. The U.K.-based company employs about 1,500 people in all of its offices worldwide.

A spokesperson for privately held Sophos said the reduction was part of a reorganization to eliminate redundancy, which would ultimately shift some U.K.-based positions to the company's Boston office.

While Sophos declined to specify on whether the layoffs were due to the economic downturn, a spokesperson said that "the economic climate compels us to look for greater efficiencies within our organization."

Sophos said that the reduction would have "no impact whatsoever" on its channel, noting that the company is putting marketing resources into its U.S. headquarters that would "prove beneficial" to the channel.
