Check Point: Analyze This

Capitalizing on the growing market for security information management, Check Point Software Technologies this week plans to unveil a tool designed to correlate security event information from a variety of programs and devices.

The appliance, dubbed the Eventia Analyzer, will work not only with Check Point devices, but also with devices and security technologies from other vendors, including Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks and others.

Because of this interoperability, David Burton, director of product marketing at the Redwood City, Calif.-based vendor, said the product presents a great opportunity for solution providers to integrate services into the system.

"[The Eventia Analyzer] is a great way to increase Check Point product sales, or to build security management services around any other sort of implementation," he said. "It's a product that can fit into any type of network environment."

According to Burton, the Eventia Analyzer works best with products in Check Point's SmartCenter line, tools for centrally configuring, managing and monitoring multiple Check Point gateways and enforcement points.

Once the tool identifies a security event, it stores it in a server for further correlation and incorporates the data into future security protocols for an overarching proactive approach.

Some solution providers were excited about the new tool. Nathan Browne, director of technical services at AccessIT Group, King of Prussia, Pa., said the product should help customers get a better hold on their security posture.

"By taking many sources of raw data and correlating unique log information into a single incident to investigate, we anticipate our customers being able to become more efficient with their existing resources," he said.

Pricing for the new appliance was not available.
