Software Is Oracle's 'Heart and Soul'

Oracle's software business, which includes its new license sales and license updates and support, "has been pretty consistent," growing 8 percent this year and 7 percent last year, Henley said during the meeting.

Software accounts for about three-quarters of Oracle's business, Henley said, describing it as "the heart and soul of the company."

Over the past decade, Oracle's software revenue has grown at a 14 percent-compounded average growth rate, Henley said.

Oracle's recurring revenue from license updates and support is larger than its new software license sales, he said.
