Can You Tell Fake From Real?

A VAR 500 solution provider claims that someone stole the company's identity and set up a fake Web site to do business under its name. Could this new form of identity theft happen to your company?

Here is the front page of ComputerLand of Silicon Valley's actual Web site. The VAR500 solution provider claims to be the victim of business identity theft.

Doug Green, executive vice president of ComputerLand, said this Web site [www.clandsv.com] is fake and is misrepresenting him and his company. The street address is correct, but the phone numbers are incorrect, Green said. This site was registered just last month. Someone has e-mailed out numerous RFPs to other resellers seeking to buy Intel processors and Hewlett-Packard inkjet cartridges on behalf of ComputerLand of Silicon Valley. Green said any e-mail coming from www.clandsv.com is fraudulent.

Here are the two Web sites, right next to each other. Can you tell the which site is fake and which is real?
