VARs Celebrate Super Sunday

The University of Phoenix Stadium, in Glendale, Ariz., stands ready Sunday morning for its big day.

Roy Vallee, Avnet Chairman and CEO, addresses the crowd of customers and suppliers Sunday morning over brunch.

After brunch, the guests line up to pick up their tickets to the big game. With the Super Bowl in its backyard, Avnet secured more than 200 tickets and held parties all weekend.

Fred Cuen, president of Avnet Technology Solutions, flew in from San Antonio to take his daughters to the game.

Anna McDermott, senior vice president of Avnet Technology Solutions, poses with Mike Thompson, president and CEO at Groupware Technology, Campbell, Calif.

McDermott, the daughter of a football coach, was attending her eighth Super Bowl. She predicted a Patriots win. "I want to see history being made," she said.

It was the third Super Bowl for Thompson, No. 1 on the 2007 CRN Fast Growth 100 list. He liked the underdog Giants.

McDermott, a Broncos fan, also said hello to Frank Scozzari, senior vice president of sales and technical services at The Ergonomic Group, a Garden City Park, N.Y.-based solution provider. Frank and his 13-year-old son, Frank Jr., went home happy.

Denny O'Connell, senior vice president of operations at Avnet (left), is all smiles with Jim Ramsey, senior sales rep at Datatrend Technologies (center) and Mark Waldrep president of Minnetonka, Minn.-based Datatrend.

Mark Kulaga (in glasses) helps hand out the tickets. Kulaga was a busy man last weekend as Avnet held events for customers all over the Phoenix area, thanks to the Super Bowl and the FBR Open, which set PGA attendance records.
