With this week's announcement of an online search and advertising alliance between Microsoft and Yahoo, the pressure is on for key players at those companies to deliver a competitive answer to runaway market leader Google's dominance. And nobody will be under more scrutiny than Steve Ballmer, chief executive of Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft. Ballmer spent Thursday pitching the Yahoo alliance to analysts and investors -- a bit of frustration might have shined through when he said of the deal that "Nobody gets it."
