Business Continuity: Act Before It's Too Late

The Business Continuity Institute has declared March 21 to 25, "Business Continuity Awareness Week." Last year, CDW surveyed 200 IT managers at medium and large businesses across the U.S. that had experienced significant, unplanned network interruptions over the previous year, to learn about the impact of those outages and what steps they took afterward.

The study, published as CDW’s 2010 Business Continuity Straw Poll Report, found that almost all (82 percent) of the respondents were confident in their networks' resilience before the incidents that took them down. The report estimated, conservatively, that such network outages cost U.S. businesses $1.7 billion in lost profits between July 2009 and July 2010. The report examined the most common causes of network interruptions and how the businesses surveyed are moving to improve their business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.
