Solution provider Computer Sciences Corp. this week bought AppLabs Technologies -- a move that makes CSC one of the largest providers of application testing services.

In other VAR500 news, Accenture settled a lawsuit with the government, CDW gave away wireless labs to three lucky schools, Capgemini looks likely to expand in India and Logicalis earned cloud recognition from IBM.

CSC Snaps Up AppLabs

Solution provider CSC has acquired software testing and quality management service provider AppLabs Technologies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The purchase transforms CSC into a leading application testing services provider in the high growth discrete testing market: According to research firm IDC, the independent testing and validation services market is growing faster than the IT services market and is forecasted for 21 percent compound annual growth rate through 2013.

Accenture Settles With DOJ

Accenture has agreed with the U.S. Department of Justice to settle a lawsuit originally filed in 2006 for $63.68 million. The lawsuit claimed that, in work for the federal government, Accenture received payments, resale revenue or other benefits through alliance agreements with technology vendors that were not sufficiently disclosed and that were not allowed on federal contracts. Accenture and the U.S. Department of Justice have agreed to settle the suit to avoid additional time, inconvenience and expense that would come with protracted litigation. According to a statement from the solution provider, the agreement is not an admission of liability by Accenture; the company continues to vigorously deny that there was any wrongdoing.

Logicalis Grabs Two IBM Cloud Designations

Logicalis has earned two Cloud Specialty designations from IBM. According to the solution provider, it is rare that an IBM partner qualifies for more than one distinction simultaneously. Logicalis was recognized in both the Cloud Builder and Cloud Infrastructure solution areas of IBM’s Cloud Specialty program. Cloud Builders engage in consultative and solution selling of multiple IBM offerings, providing services and solutions necessary to help customers design and implement a private cloud infrastructure in their own data center environment. Cloud Infrastructure providers operate a public Infrastructure as a Service or Platform as a Service -- a managed public cloud -- on behalf of their customers.

Capgemini Expands Headcount In India

VAR500 solution provider Capgemini is aggressively increasing headcount in Calcutta, India, according to The Telegraph. Sources said that Capgemini plans to double its headcount in the city within two years. Currently, of the 36,000 employees nationwide, the solution provider has 1,700 employees in Calcutta.

CDW Announces Wireless Lab Winners

Going back to school will be a little more high tech for three schools selected as the grand prize winners in the 2011 Win a Wireless Lab Sweepstakes, sponsored by CDW Government LLC (CDW-G), and Discovery Education, a provider of digital content services. The 2011 sweepstakes awarded nearly $200,000 in customized classroom technologies to 43 schools nationwide. The top three winners this year are: Piner Elementary School, of Morning View, Ky.; Spaulding School, of Gurnee, Ill.; and St. Veronica Catholic School, of Chantilly, Va. Each won one of three state-of-the-art 21st-century classrooms, which include notebook computers or tablet PCs, an interactive whiteboard, a student response system, a projector, and a document camera. The contest is in its ninth year.
