In another surprise announcement from the kingdom of Wintel, Microsoft's Steven Sinofsky, the contentious head of its all-important Windows division, suddenly departed the company in mid-November. While speculation held that Sinofsky had constant friction with other Microsoft executives and erred on certain aspects of the Windows 8 strategy, partners were mixed on whether his ouster would be a positive.
