Cisco Q1 Blade Server Revenue Tops HP In North America

Cisco Systems overtook rival Hewlett-Packard to become the No. 1 x86 blade server vendor in North America by revenue in the first quarter, according to market share data released this week by IDC.

The numbers mean HP has been knocked down to the No. 2 spot for the first time since 2006. HP, however, stayed No. 1 in terms of the number of shipped units, IDC said.

Cisco execs credited steady sales growth for the company's Unified Computing System (UCS) converged infrastructure offering, which launched in 2009, for helping to push Cisco past HP.
