The Fortune 500 was recently released, highlighting the largest public companies in the U.S in 2015. We've pulled out the 25 largest IT companies on the list, nearly all of which shook up their placements this year compared with the 2014 list.

Overall, the IT industry had a good showing this year. Several companies are in the midst of transitioning from hardware to software and cloud sales, and traditional telecommunications carriers are evolving into IT service providers with boosted revenue to prove it.

Here we highlight the largest 25 IT companies on Fortune's list this year, in order from the smallest to the largest companies in this space in 2015.

25. CDW

CDW earned a spot among the top 25 IT companies this year on the Fortune 500 list. The company saw a 12 percent increase in revenue year over year, reporting $12 billion in fiscal 2014. CDW jumped 12 spots this year on the Fortune 500 ranking.

24. Texas Instruments

Texas Instruments saw a 6 percent increase in revenue year over year but slipped six spaces in this year's Fortune 500 rankings. The company posted $13 billion in revenue in fiscal year 2014.

CSC dropped 44 spots on the 2015 Fortune 500 list vs. 2014's list. The company's revenue decreased 14 percent year over year to $13.2 billion, and CSC's ranking dropped into the 200s this year. The company said in May that it would split into two companies.

Semiconductor products maker Micron Technology had the most impressive showing of all the IT companies on this year's Fortune 500 list. The company moved up 112 spaces up in the rankings. Revenue for fiscal 2014 shot up 80 percent year over year to $16.3 billion.

CenturyLink joins its other telecommunications companies on Fortune 500's list but dropped 10 spaces this year vs. last year. Revenue for fiscal 2014 held steady at $18.0 billion. The carrier recently joined forces with Hewlett-Packard, giving partners access to CenturyLink's hybrid IT services powered by HP gear.

19. Xerox

Xerox experienced a 4 percent decline in revenue in fiscal year 2014 compared with the prior fiscal year, coming in at $20.9 billion. The company has said it plans to restructure and reduce its headcount. Xerox fell six places on this year's Fortune 500 list.

Apple held steady in the top five Fortune 500 companies for the second consecutive year, the most lucrative IT company on the Fortune 500 list once again. Apple revenue rose 7 percent in fiscal 2014 to $182.8 billion vs. the prior fiscal year.
