8 Sleek Smartphones You'll Want Right Now

Bigger And Better Smartphones

Mobile World Congress 2013 is coming to a close, and this year's event in Barcelona saw a number of new smartphones, including some supersized devices that blur the lines between phone and tablet. Here's a look at eight of the best -- and biggest -- smartphones from MWC 2013.

Asus PadFone Infinity

Asus' new extra-large Android smartphone is a monster and perfectly symbolizes this year's trend of bigger phones. The PadFone Infinity boasts a 5-inch HD display capable of full 1080p video playback on the outside, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core, 1.7-GHz processor on the inside, plus 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE capability and 50 GB of Asus' free cloud storage.

ZTE Open

The first official "Firefox phone," ZTE's Open, embraces Mozilla's new mobile operating system. The ZTE Open is an entry-level device with a 3.5-inch touch-screen display and a single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 system-on-a-chip. The devices come with just 256 MB of RAM and only 512 MB of internal storage. But the real attraction is the OS, which is an open source platform that enables every feature to be developed as an HTML5 application, according to Mozilla.

HTC One

HTC's new flagship smartphone is a whopper. The touch-screen Android device comes with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 quad-core chip running at 1.7GHz, plus an Adreno 320 graphics chip, 2 GB of memory and either 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage. The 4.7-inch display supports a screen resolution of 1,920x1,080, and there are some extra features like HTC's new personal data stream called BlinkFeed.

LG Optimus F7

LG showed two new Optimus F-class phones at Mobile World Congress this year, but it's the bigger Android smartphone that makes this list. The Optimus F7 packs a 4.7-inch HD display (larger than the F5's 4.3-inch display) and a dual-core 1.5-GHz processor, plus 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. The device has a microSD card slot for up to 32 GB of additional storage and runs the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 operating system.

Acer Liquid E1

Acer unleashed a new lineup of phones in Barcelona, and at the top of the list is the Liquid E1. Featuring a 4.5-inch HD display, the Liquid E1 Android phone comes with a dual-core 1-GHz processor, plus optional dual SIM cards and a dual speaker system with DTS Sound. Acer's new multimedia smartphone also packs Android's Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OS, plus Acer's "Float Caller" notification feature, which keeps incoming calls in a mini-window rather than taking over the entire display screen.

Huawei Ascend P2

Another smartphone maker, another supersized smartphone. The Huawei Ascend P2, which runs the Android Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system, comes with a 4.7-inch HD display and 16 GB of internal storage. There are also a couple of bonus features; first, there's "magic touch," which allows users to interact with the touch screen while wearing gloves. Second, Huawei added a little something extra to the Android OS -- a new customer user interface called "Emotion UI" -- on top of the Android OS.

Nokia Lumia 720

Nokia added to its Lumia lineup of Windows Phone 8-powered devices, and the Lumia 720 stand outs from the pack as an affordable midrange smartphone. The Lumia 720 has a 4.3-inch touch-screen display (800x480 resolution) and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1-GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and microSD card support for up to 64 GB of internal storage, plus an additional 7 GB of free cloud storage. There's also a 6.7-megapixel camera. Pricing and availability haven't been announced for North America, but the device is expected to be priced at around $300.

LG Optimus G Pro

Another LG device makes this list, though this one is a little bigger than the Optimus F7. The G Pro has a 5.5-inch HD display capable of full 1080p video playback, and has technical specs similar to Asus' FonePad Infinity -- a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7-GHz processor, plus 4G LTE support and 2 GB of RAM. There's also an Adreno 320 graphics chip for enhanced visuals, as well as 32 GB of internal storage.
